Q: Why fit the LAD4VU suppressor module on a contactor coil?
A: When a contactor coil de-energises, the collapsing magnetic field generates a high-voltage transient (several hundred volts to kV) that can destroy PLC transistor outputs, weld small relay contacts, and disturb nearby electronics. The LAD4VU clamps this transient at source. It is strongly recommended whenever a PLC, electronic timer, or sensitive control circuit switches the coil.
Q: Does the LAD4VU suppressor type affect contactor drop-out time?
A: Yes, slightly. RC suppressors and varistors add minimal delay (a few milliseconds) and are suitable for almost all applications. Diode suppressors (DC coils only) give the slowest drop-out — relevant only in fast-reversing or braking applications where contactor release time matters. For standard motor starting duty, the difference is negligible.
